Planning and conservation areas in Brentwood
Brentwood Borough Council has 13 conservation areas, including Brentwood Town Centre, Hutton Village, Great Warley, Herongate, South Weald and Ingatestone High Street. In a conservation area, some outside work that's normally allowed needs planning permission. Rendering the outside of a house is one example, and taking down an old fence can be another. If your home is listed, you'll need listed building consent for significant work, inside or out.
For most garden fences, the usual height rules apply: up to 2 metres without planning permission, or 1 metre next to a road. Our fencing page explains the details.
If you're not sure about your home, check with Brentwood Borough Council before outside work starts. Inside work, like a new kitchen or bathroom, doesn't usually need planning permission.

Do you work in Shenfield and Hutton?
Yes. We cover Brentwood, Shenfield, Hutton, Warley, Pilgrims Hatch and the villages around them.
Where are you based?
In Romford, a short drive from Brentwood along the A12.
Do I need planning permission for a new fence in Brentwood?
Not usually, if it's no higher than 2 metres, or 1 metre next to a road. Listed buildings and conservation areas have extra rules, so check with the council if that applies to you.
Do I need permission to render my house in Brentwood?
Usually not, if the render looks similar to the existing walls. In a conservation area or for a listed home, you'll need permission first.

Is the site visit free?
Yes, the visit is free.
Is your work guaranteed?
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, and the guarantee is written into your quote.
